Mrs. McAvoy's Reading Corner

All About Me

My name is Mrs. Natalie McAvoy.  The Elkhorn Area School District hired me as a reading specialist in 2000.  Since that time, I have worked at all three elementary buildings.  This year, I am at Tibbets Elementary.  Before teaching in Elkhorn, I taught in northeastern Illinois as a first grade teacher for four years and a reading teacher for two years.  In the past, I worked five years as an adjunct professor at Aurora University at George Williams College teaching undergraduate and graduate classes in the area of reading.

It is important to me that I belong to Professional Organizations.  I have been a member since 1991 of International Reading Association (IRA), Wisconsin State Reading Association (WSRA), and Southern Lakes Reading Council (SLRC).  Last year, I was elected as the President of Southern Lakes Reading Council.  Part of the position is setting up valuable speakers in the area of reading.  Meetings are held four times during the year.

I have a love of learning and enjoy teaching reading strategies to students.  My hobbies include reading, cooking, and boating.  I love to travel and visit historical sites.  Exercise and yoga are other things I also enjoy.
